Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) advocates for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG)

In response to the horrific murders of four Indigenous women in Winnipeg, the team at ONWA coordinated an advocacy campaign to raise awareness of the significant work being done – and the support that is desperately needed – to end the ongoing genocide of Indigenous women and girls. ONWA Executive Director, Cora McGuire-Cyrette, was interviewed by several media outlets and shared thoughts on what needs to be done and why time is of the essence. Here’s a powerful example in the Winnipeg Free Press.

Imagine Canada Holiday Campaign

The 9th annual Imagine Canada campaign exploring Canadians’ holiday giving intentions closed out 2022 on a cautionary note. Backed by a research poll conducted by Ignite Lab, it was found that inflation, surging demand and falling donations combined would create a perfect storm for Canada’s 170,000-plus charities and nonprofits. Also found was that fewer than half of Canadian adults (48%) intended to donate compared to 56% in 2021 and among those who planned to donate over the holidays, 38% indicated giving less. Media across the country shared provincial findings through interviews with Imagine Canada spokespeople, warning that the substantial drop in holiday season donations posed a major threat to millions of Canadians reliant on charitable services. Here’s an interview with Global News Halifax and Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO, Imagine Canada.

Winter Tire Campaign

Eighty-two per cent of Canadian drivers believe investing in winter tires is important despite this year’s steep increases in the cost of living. Thanks to awareness campaigns like this one, winter tire use in Canada is gradually increasing. The 2022 Canadian Consumer Winter Tire Study, commissioned by the Tire and Rubber Association of Canada (TRAC) and conducted by Leger, finds that outside Quebec 63% of drivers use winter tires, up from 60% in 2017. Media have come to expect TRAC’s annual survey results and auto journalists are huge fans of the benefits of winter tires. Here’s a great piece from driving.ca.

Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN) marks National Disability Employment Month

There’s a lot of talk about a labour shortage. Too many jobs and not enough qualified people to fill them. Meanwhile we have a largely uptapped pool of talent that is ready, willing and eager to work: people with disabilities. To educate Canadians on the benefits and opportunities of hiring people with disabilities ODEN conducted an integrated communications plan including social media, podcasts, media relations and webinars.

Here’s an Op-Ed in toronto.com by ODEN CEO Jeannette Campbell.
